A Good Life’s NOT Cheap

Part One: The Death of the Tree of Liberty

“… How can we tolerate these new ideals put forth by the men running our country? For they are wrong, unjust, and a breach to our liberties. The same [man] that you elected will take our rights away, and [he] has become a monarch, a king, a dictator. … Men, we must revolt against this tyranny. We must restore this Republic! Gather [your] arms and fight, for our rights are at stake. We all must do this in an effort to keep [the] freedoms which may be taken away in an hour’s time. …”

Then every man gathered his weapons, and spread the word of a revolt, one that would refresh the tree of liberty with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Indeed, Godrick Reaper did spill much blood in his “…effort to keep [the] freedoms…”, followed by many men driven by his profound speech. It happened at twilight, on a new moon. The grasshoppers’ music covered the sound of their footsteps in the conquest, and the citizens could hardly see Reaper in front of them. The white house was guarded effectively, as normal, but the rebels snuck in. They got as far as the main hall before they were spotted. Moments later, the beautiful red and blue tapestries with gold lining and silk fabric along the white wall were stained a horrible crimson, and bullet-holes replaced most of the gold linings on them. Eventually, however, the rebels did kill the “monarch”, and Godrick Reaper made his next speech.

“Men, today we have won a great battle, in fact, we just won a war. Many [of us] were lost, and I personally will make a memorial to them, [so] that they will always be remembered. I would like to now cast votes for a new president. As for those men who deemed it unfit to join our rebellion, as punishment, they cannot participate in this vote. I will collect your votes. You may pick any [man] here, except for me. I will give you freedom, but would hate to see myself be a dictator like those men were.”

The votes were cast, and a man named George Reta was elected. How he was elected, no one knew, seeing as all of them had voted for someone else. But who would question Reaper, the man who gave them this victory. Refusing profusely to be called by his last name, George was, quite frankly, stupid. There was not one choice in his life which was not someone else’s, typically Reaper’s choice. Though this did mean that he was healthy, handsome, and strong, it did not change his intellect. It was as though Reaper himself was president, but nobody knew that. Who would care anyway, seeing that Reaper was the war hero, not George.

“President George, I believe this is your room. I will help you with the clean-up, [the] great man that I am,” said Godrick Reaper. “The rest of you [men], leave, and proclaim this victory throughout the country! You [men] should celebrate, the Republic is Back! Bury the bodies in a place of honor. They have refreshed the tree of liberty. However, men, let us take a vote. In order to stop those who refused to come [with us] in our rebellion from voting in another dictator president, let us make George King over this republic.”

Yet again, although everyone voted no, somehow Reaper got the wrong idea, and made George King. Who dares question Reaper anyway, if they did know.

And King George’s room was a beautiful room, if you forgot about the bodies. Red, White, and Blue tapestries all over the room, with a king bed and wood floors. However, this room was changed by a lot after Reaper was done with it. Quartz floors and French paintings replaced the wood and tapestries. The bed was replaced with an antique one, but the scratchy blankets were replaced with a soft, cushiony one. Once Reaper was done with the room, you could not recognize it for the room it was before.

As Reaper himself had mentioned previously in one of his speeches, There were a few men who thought it unconstitutional to go on the rebellion. The most outspoken of all the people who did not go was Doctor Nathan Blunt. He was the main doctor in his hospital along with a man named Dr. Douglas Fletcher, who did go on the rebellion. As a consequence, Dr. Blunt was forced to do double the work he normally had too, for they were in the middle of the flu season.

Dr. Blunt simply did not see what Reaper was complaining about. The only choices that the government had made was to reduce taxes, kill universal healthcare plans that were brought up in the last presidency, and try to cut funding and taxes for public schools and abortion. As for foreign policy, the president was feared in every nation. Border problems were solved, and threats from other nations were dealt with quickly and efficiently. He also stopped using taxes to pay doctors. The nation was prospering, and this was after only a year of his service.

His friend Henry Drake agreed with Dr. Blunt. Often they talked about the great things that happened during the presidency, while their kids were playing with each other downstairs. Dr. Blunt had two children, a 14 year old ninth grader named John, and a 12 year old seventh grader named Sally. Henry’s son was named Tom, and he was in 8th grade, at age 13.

Strange things were happening in Tom, Sally, and John’s private school too. To start off, their principal was fired, and replaced by a lady called Principal Mary Anne. She, as well as many others, were picked by King George himself, or should I say King Reaper himself. They were to teach 3rd grade work to 7th graders, and so on. Kids who were lower than 4th grade were taught like preschoolers, and kids in kindergarten or below were kicked out from the school. Janette Mitchel, the previous principal, always taught the kids at the level they were, and this meant that most of the kids were actually learning work that was a grade higher than their level. Other than this new learning setup, the kids were also forced to follow many rules, and were barred from learning History. Instead, they had a new subject called Economics, though a more accurate title would be Socialism, for under King George’s reign, Socialism, not Capitalism, was the form of Economics.

Jannette Mitchel had a daughter, named Anne Mitchel, and she taught 8th grade. There were not multiple teachers for one grade because of a teacher shortage that always happens in private schools. Refusing to teach the students nothing, she taught everything she normally did in hiding. She removed the cameras from their room, and taught in secret. History, Math, and any other subject were taught quickly and quietly, and when the Principal came to check their classroom, she flipped her black board, and made it look like her class was learning fractions, not quadratic equations, or American History!

“Class, I want you to know something,” said Mrs. Anne, quietly, quickly, and importantly. “We learn history to know the mistakes of our past and not make them again. We learn math so that we may think. We learn grammar so that we can show our patriotism to that country we learn about in history. We learn science so that we can use the world for a good and right purpose. This year especially, however, I will not teach you evolution, because I do not believe that is how the world began. I will teach you Creation, the way the world did begin, and every thing I teach you will be in light of the Bible. My hope is that you will become thinking people, and Christians, and understand why Socialism is a villainous type of Economics.”

Tom, Sally, and John were all Christians, and so were their parents, and so when Dr. Blunt came to pick them all up, (They were going to celebrate the first day of school at the Drake’s place) he was fuming. The kids wanted to wait till all of them were together to tell them about the good that happened, but Principal Janette and Ms. Anne had already messaged Dr. Blunt and Mr. Drake about the evil done. As a result, they were both instantly invited to come over, and once the Blunt’s and Drake’s knew about the success of the rebellion, the King, and the Death of the Tree of Liberty, they  were  past  the  point of  being  furious,

and was angrier than any word can describe. Dr. Blunt then, through his anger, broke out in a line that would describe the failure of Socialism!

“A GOOD LIFE’S NOT CHEAP!”

Silence followed this outbreak. The truth in his words settled deep in the hearts of every listener, and his booming voice spread the message to every man, woman, and child on the block. Then, in a passion, the kids told them about the horrors in their school from their point of view, and ended by telling the listeners of Patriot Anne, and about what she was doing in her school.

Drake rushed to grab the weapons, and stage a revolt, but cried out in a loud voice when he realized that everything that Reaper said the perfectly good government was going to do if they didn’t rebel happened. Their free speech, gone. Their arms, taken away, and any other freedom that they had ever valued in America was put to shackles by the power of the man named Godrick Reaper and his army of immigrants who knew nothing about the history of America.

Part Two: The Purge of Anti-Socialistic Americans

Dr. Blunt drove to the hospital in a solemn mode. In his car, he listened to some of Thomas Jefferson’s quotes. Specifically, he listened to this one: “What country before ever existed a century & half without a rebellion? & what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon, & sanctify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.” Never before, Dr. Blunt thought, had this saying held so much meaning. If only they had weapons that they could use for a revolt.

There is no man who would not hate to be treated by a main doctor of a hospital in this mood, but Dr. Fletcher, the other doctor, was not like Dr. Blunt. Dr. Fletcher was an outspoken socialist, and Dr. Blunt was an outspoken Anti-Socialist. This was sure to create problems, and a big problem came when a man by the name of James Sow had an asthma attack again after a decade’s pause. James Sow was a farmer, and kept on getting less and less money because of Socialism. Eventually, all his money went into taxes to pay for someone else’s health problems. Asthma was quite common, and his tax money went into asthma canisters for other patients. All the canisters went out of stock, and James could not buy one for himself. That, and the increased smoke in the area because of the increased amount of cars on the road caused his severe asthma attack.

Dr. Blunt wasted no time in treating this man. After James Sow was in a good condition, which was a few days later, more and more people came in. Dr. Blunt overworked himself in treating these patients, for Dr. Fletcher was nowhere in sight. When the bills came in, however, Dr. Blunt found that he was getting the same amount of money, even less than that lazy Dr. Fletcher.

Truth be told, Dr. Fletcher was an evil man. When treating his patients, he never told them how to solve their problems, so that they would keep coming in, and he would make more money. After tax funds came to him, he just became lazy in treating them altogether, but helped with the funeral bills, of which he would take 50%. When the last president took away all of the healthcare benefits, and payment for doctors, Dr. Fletcher went bankrupt. That was when he became a Socialist.

Dr. Fletcher also had a daughter, named Clara. She was also in 8th grade, and when she saw what Ms. Anne, the 8th grade teacher, was doing with their class, she spoke directly to Principal Mary. Needless to say, she was the principal’s favorite, and got Ms. Anne fired.

This, as well as the news that they were getting about the funds of Dr. Blunt, caused Tom Drake to create a group which he called “The Anti-Socialist Republic of the 8th Grade”. In response, Clara Fletcher created “The Socialist Confederacy of 8th Grade”. Tensions were growing at the school, and Principal Mary did everything in her power to punish the members of what she called “The School Rebels”.

Of course, this division in the school had no value of its own, but it did show the actual tensions in the country. The problem with the school rebellions, in Reaper’s eyes (All the schools had the same plight, though Tim’s school was the first) was that the kids in those schools would inevitably grow up to be Anti-Socialists, and want to kill Socialism.

What happened next was brutal. In a strange turn of events, Henry Drake was sick, and he would die. As normal, Dr. Blunt took care of Henry’s sickness, but try as he may, he could not solve his problem. This was happening all over the country. Anti-Socialists everywhere were catching this deadly disease, and no one knew what caused it. No one, that is, except Reaper. He manufactured this disease, and had it’s cure. After people answered a simple spreadsheet, and it was known whether they were Socialist or not, they would be given a shot. Socialists had the cure, but the Anti-Socialists had the virus. Soon, every Anti-Socialist in the country was sick because of this virus, and no one knew how to stop it.

Dr. Blunt finally figured out what was happening, and he and Dr. Fletcher hated each other. One by one, people died from this disease. However, after 332 deaths, the immune systems of the people were protected against this virus, and they were angry. The King tried to kill all Anti-Socialists possible. War broke out, and weapons were brought from other countries. It was a dark civil war between the Socialists and Anti-Socialists. Supplies were limited, and the only ones who were not suffering from the war were the King and Reaper. Although Dr. Blunt wanted to fight more than anything, he knew it would be better if he served as a doctor. Dr. Fletcher made the same choice, and it was an odd time. Two bitter enemies stayed by each other’s side for the protection of their country-men.

Reaper soon grew tired of the war, and sent in military weapons far superior than that of the Anti-Socialists. Many massacres followed, and green grasslands turned red with the blood of patriots and tyrants. The war was an utter failure for the Anti-Socialists. Reaper did not hide it any longer: He was the dictator, not George, and the country would be, as long as it was a country, a Socialist Society. Rebellions occurred many times, but none could stand the power of Reaper.

The Socialistic country soon lost funds. Free stuff, as it turned out, is not truly free. Not even death was free, and some funeral bills bankrupted people. It was easily conquered by other nations, and the last patriots, the last Anti-Socialists looked on with sadness. The Socialists did not care much at all, and simply moved into Britain, to ruin that society too. With the blood spread over that nation, the Americans wrote their last words of the country, to be put on its grave. “Nothing is Free. Not even Death…”
