Technology

Technology. When you think of technology, you probably think of your computer, phone, or electronic devices. Nowadays, It is easy to believe the tech only includes electrical equipment. And I am sure that my classmates only had computers and coding in mind when they nicknamed me “Tech Support.” However, technology is simply anything that we come up with to solve a problem. It could be a computer, insulation, doors, and even the simple wheel.

The wheel is one of the earliest pieces of technology ever created. But today, we are seeing new kinds of tech. Cloning animals, synthesizing chicken meat, making the smallest possible computer chip, and new steps in vaccine production, tech has become incredible. My personal favorite piece of technology would have to be the computer.

Now, most people my age would say computers are their favorite piece of tech simply because they can play video-games on it. However, I enjoy computers not only because of that, but also because we can create worlds on them. Models no longer have to use up physical resources, but can be made inside a computer, or in cyberspace, and never rust away. Then once perfected, we can make that model in real life, otherwise known as meat-space, to be the best it can be. What if we can take it further?

Now, with technology comes pros and cons. For example, if electricity was never invented, no one would have died from an electric shock. However, I doubt any of you can imagine a world without your phone. Technology can be used in many ways; that is one of the great things about it. But it can also be abused, sometimes causing the death of a human. All of the cons to technology I can think of, all result of either carelessness, abuse of tech, or in experimentation of new technology. But if we don’t try to overcome the loss, if we don’t keep solving problems, and fulfilling goals, if we stop “inventioneering”, in the words of Mr. Roger Billings, we stop improving, becoming better, and fully utilizing this world we live in.

In conclusion, technology is incredible. With it we have the power to change lives. However, technology also holds a warning. If abused, tech could cause worse deaths than we have ever seen before, just think of the atomic bomb, a technological wonder! However, if we stop improvising, adapting, and overcoming, if we stop pioneering in technology, we simply cannot leave a better world to the next generation. Everything must grow to live. And tech must grow too.
